Vision, Mission and Strategy of the Prison's Skill Training Program
Vision
To dissolve the violent tendencies of inmates and inspire genuine repentance and positive transformation.
Mission
The purpose of skill training is to equip inmates with practical skills and professional expertise, enabling them to secure employment after release from prison and contribute to society using their acquired skills.
Strategy
Adhering to the principle of "training as the foundation, labor as the application," we move towards the goal of strengthening practical skills and improving product quality.
In the past, prisons primarily focused on imposing suffering on inmates to offset the harm they had caused. However, with the changes of the times, the role of prisons has evolved beyond mere punishment. Today, prison’s greater mission is to help inmates rehabilitate and learn practical skills. In recent years, correctional treatment has become increasingly diversified, actively promoting vocational training to cultivate useful skills, thus facilitating smoothly rehabilitation into society and a meaningful, productive life after release.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Agency of Corrections, our prison allocates budgets and integrates community resources to offer vocational training programs aligned with current social trends. These classes include:
- Welding
- Web Design
- Fermented Foods Production
- Handmade Soap
- Baking
- Pottery
- Glass Painting
- Horticulture
- Koji Pottery
Among them, the Welding class is conducted in accordance with the Ministry of Justice's Agency of Corrections directive (Ref. No. 10203003240, dated May 2, 2013), in cooperation with the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Regional Branch of the Ministry of Labor of Workforce Development Agency. The class focuses on training inmates in metal structure welding techniques and helps them obtain professional certification, thereby increasing their employment prospects post-release.
The Web Design class invites instructors from nearby schools with information technology departments to teach in the prison and guide them to pass certification exams after completing the course.
As for the Pottery, Koji Pottery, and Glass Painting class, they aim to preserve local traditional folk crafts that are on the verge of disappearing. To this end, the prison has invited National Master Lu Sheng-Nan, to teach these skills of artisan.
The Baking class is taught by a pastry chef from the Janfusun Prince Hotel, who trains inmates in baking techniques. The class is also combined them with self-run business, thus providing a genuine opportunity to develop living skills and prepare for a better life after discharge.
